The Assistant Director for Media Production films, edits, and produces live and on-demand audiovisual content for distribution through a variety of platforms, including, but not limited to: ESPN+/RSN live broadcasts, Videoboard presentations, Closed-circuit special events, social media platforms (e.g. Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok, among others), and the official gocolumbialions.com website. The Assistant Director will also support multimedia initiatives in the areas of logging and archiving, rights management and distribution, as well as equipment setup, breakdown, maintenance, storage and repair, among other responsibilities.

This position shall report to the Associate Athletics Director for Strategic Communications, but shall be responsible for providing support to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations, the Associate Athletics Director for Marketing Strategies Fan Development and the Senior Associate Director of Athletic Communications in the development of original content to support marketing and sports information/media relations projects.

The Assistant Director supports all efforts to promote and enhance the image of the Columbia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The staff member hired to this position shall be highly organized, detail-oriented, a good communicator, and possesses the ability to handle numerous assignments in a timely manner with the flexibility to adjust to unscheduled developments involving immediate attention.

Responsibilities

A broad understanding of creative video production techniques, equipment and formats.

Working knowledge and real-world experience in planning, managing and executing video and digital media initiatives.

Professional knowledge of industry standard pre and post-production software and applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, ProTools, etc.

Working knowledge of live sports television production roles and responsibilities, with knowledge of operation of production hardware and software a plus.

Efficient audio and video editing skills.

Strong organizational, management and leadership skills.

Proven ability to multitask effectively, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.

Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student-athletes, league counterparts, external and student media, and third-party vendors.

Strong writing skills.

Passionate interest in sports.

Availability to work nights and weekends, in addition to regular office hours.

Possible travel with sport teams for select away contests (i.e., championships, etc.)

Knowledge of NCAA and the Ivy League conference rules and regulations.

Ability to complete additional duties as assigned by the Athletics Director, Senior Associate Athletics Director and/or direct supervisor on short notice

Experience / Skills


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

Two years of professional experience in video production

OR

High School Diploma or Equivalent

7 years of experience in marketing, video, or public relations industry, with at least 2 years professional experience in video production.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to learn new technologies, techniques and solve problems quickly and completely.

Positive attitude, detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability.

Strong sense of professionalism & judgment in response to issues in the public social media space.

Experience working for NCAA Division I athletics program and/or professional sports team/league office.

Professional experience working in live television production a plus.

Graduate Degree in journalism and/or television/film production a plus.
