By any measurable standards, I would deem 2022 NAB a success. The show was cleaner, leaner, and more focused than any NAB that I can remember in recent history. With an announced attendance of 55,000 there was definitely a new and unleashed positive energy that one could see and feel. But there was also a ton of new technologies to explore and it was just great to reconnect with so many friends and new professionals in our space. But before I drill down to a few particulars, here are some of the major trends that you need to follow and that will have a definite impact on our production workflows for quite some time.
The countdown is on. Many of us are days from getting on a plane and are heading out for 2022 NAB. Man it’s been way to long, right? In Part One of our ProductionHUB NAB coverage, a lot of new product information was just starting to come out, bit by bit. There was almost a measured release of the things we might see and hear about at the show. Well, the wait is over.
It seems like it's been forever since we had the chance to get on the NAB Show floor and honestly, I'm so ready! The people I've talked to are MORE than excited with the prospect of seeing new gear and catching up with industry friends both old and new. If you know us, then you know we'll be there to provide tons of coverage, including our very own ProductionHUB Awards of Excellence.
I remember the first time I saw a camera on the end of a jib up close and in action like it was yesterday. Do you remember the first time you saw a camera up on a jib or crane or recognized that kind of spectacular shot on the big screen?
Recently I had the rare and exciting opportunity to sit down (remotely) with someone I have followed and admired for years—renowned industry expert Bill Holshevnikoff, Director of Photography and Lighting Designer brings such life to everything he works on. It could be a feature film, commercial or network show.
When it comes to working on the the biggest productions, the Super Bowl and the Olympics are at the top of the list. Yes, I know there are a lot of other sporting events, just not at the same time! The Super Bowl will be played out at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, while there will be dozens of mobile production units in the broadcast compound. Then for good measure, add in hundreds of cameras, thousands of production professionals and sports journalists all focused to deliver once in a lifetime images in what many consider two of the highest pinnacles of sports production.
Every Marshall Electronics camera that I have used in production (and/or reviewed) has always lived up to the Marshall reputation for building great looking cameras that are also rock solid, reliable units.
Marshall cameras I have used stand up to the rigors of harsh weather and challenging placements. This winning streak for Marshall and for me extends way back to my days as a remote sports truck guy.
Creating great sound along with mixing and editing is truly an art form, one that I really have admired for a long time. The sound tools used by creative professionals today have taken audio to a whole new place.
Audiences at all levels want and expect really good audio whether it is in the movie or home theatre. Clear dialogue, background, sound effects, and music all have to be spot on. Boutique studios and full on post facilities know that getting all the elements right matters to the success of the program.
